One of the last things you want to discover in any home is mold. This organic growth often occurs in areas where moisture is present, and it can result in a variety of issues. For instance, mold eats through cellulose, so it can damage common building materials, such as wood and insulation. Mold also creates unpleasant odors and can result in symptoms like coughing, sneezing, congestion, and eye irritation.

The Purpose of a Mold Inspection

At I Spy Home Inspections LLC, we offer mold inspection services to customers in New Orleans, Louisiana. Many people have misconceptions about what a mold inspection is and its purpose, so we would like to clarify a few things:

  • Mold inspections identify the presence of mold. The main purpose of a mold inspection is to find out whether mold exists in a property and where the mold is located. It involves inspecting common places for mold to grow, such as behind walls, under flooring, on ceilings, and in damp or dark areas. Mold inspections uncover the extent of the mold problem through special equipment and visual assessment.
  • Mold inspections are different from mold testing. Mold testing can be combined with mold inspections, but the two are still distinct. Mold testing is meant to identify the specific types of mold present and the spore count in a space.
  • Mold inspections and mold remediation services are different. Don’t assume that the professional you hire for a mold inspection will also be able to provide mold remediation. Often, they are only qualified to inspect, but they can often refer you to another company for mold remediation services.
